Many
people would ask, "Who cares?" But, since you clicked to this page, we
can assume that you do. Therefore, I need not go into a dissertation on
the importance of keeping a language alive and the resurgence of the Hawaiian
language in particular.
A glossary of
nautical terms in English to Hawaiian can be
useful in labeling everything on your boat. Once you start to use the
language, you will find that people will actually begin to speak to you
in Hawaiian. You may then want to consult the Hawaiian
to English page in order to figure out what they said to you. Once
everybody is speaking the same language, it may prove useful to memorize
a few useful phrases to use aboard a ship.
If you take this
Hawaiian stuff to heart, you may wish to say a few words to the Akua,
the spirits of Hawai'i before you begin your meal of freshly caught fish.
The Invocation to the Akua is a very old chant
that has been used to thank the higher beings for many generations.
I hope these links
prove useful and that you find what you are looking
for.
